With apologies to Henry "the Wad" Longfellow.

By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,

  1. Not sure of your path, but you are near Whitefish Point. The bay is where the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in the '70s. Great maritime museum there. My father and I were shore fishing there once in dawn fog and the most enormous foghorn ever cut loose only about 50 feet away and I thought I would crap my pants. Check out Tahquamenon Falls also.

  2. The picture is at the city campground in Ontonagon. A local told me the lake has frozen over a couple of times in the last hundred years. Hard for a left-coaster like me to imagine.
Sad to say I missed the turn-off to Tahquamenon Falls but I adhere to a strict "no-doubling-back" policy. ;->
